Let's just say... Sweet.
I've made some friends at the pool.
What used to be showing up to a pool that I would spend hours at swimming, is now some where I work. Lifeguarding is something that always sounded so stupid to me. Asking people if they had a job and them saying, "yeah I'm a lifeguard." makes it sound like they took the job to be cool. But now I realize, some people are doing it to be cool, and some are doing it to have fun. And I'm doing it for the fun of it. Thanks to Sidney Merryweather, who made it sound a lot more fun than it probably is. Although for now it's been going pretty good. It's not easy work getting there though, let me tell ya.
First off, you have be lifeguard/CPR certified. So you take a lifeguard training class, yes the CPR certification comes with that. It's not exactly cheap either. But basically, to get certified you need to take three tests about what you learned in the class, if you pass the tests, you're certified. Now I got my own little CPR mask that I carry around in my backpack (just like Kirsten) who knows when I will need it? I also need to get WSI (water safety instructor) certified so I can teach swim lessons, that class is even more money than the lifeguarding one. But, since it pays more it'll be worth it in the long run.
And hey I already had my first save, first save of the year at PG pool, and on my first day, might I add. I guess we'll see how things go. But I'm planning on working there for the next two years.
